About the Doctor
While Dr. Westchesterson is best known as an artist who dares to cross genres- the common denominator between all of his work is a knack for high quality songwriting. Whether he’s writing a hip hop banger or a yacht rock period piece Dr. Westchesterson’s journey begins alone at a piano. And in his twenty-plus year residency as the “house Piano Bar guy” at Captain Nick’s -Block Island’s premiere live music venue- The Dr. has honed his skills not only as a songwriter but also as a first-rate entertainer.
Weaving together a blend of storytelling, original music and covers by songwriters that inspire him Dr. Westchesterson has discovered the secret to holding captive an audience’s collective imagination. His finely curated repertoire of cover songs is a treasure trove of well-known hits and hidden gems by the likes of Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Billy Joel, Elton John, Leonard Cohen, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, The Beatles and The Band to name only a few.
With the release of his latest (and much buzzed about) modern-day yacht rock masterpiece, “Better Days Ahead”; D-Dubs has been performing full band arrangements of the album tracks with a band of top-tier musicians. However, it’s the stripped-down versions of the songs performed by The Dr. alone at a piano that allow listeners a taste of the songs’ main ingredients.
But no matter the scenario or venue- Dr. Westchesterson’s main objective is to make sure his audience has fun. So, when the flashy outfits, booming sound systems and flashing multi-colored laser-lights are gone and it’s just The Dr. at his piano, fun is served up in its most potently distilled form. Don’t pass up the opportunity to catch one of Dr. Westchesterson’s solo Piano Bar shows where -truth be told- he’ll probably still be wearing a flashy outfit of some sort.
