SOUTHERN FICTION is the latest musical project of songwriter Jim Carpenter . . . enlisting some of the area's finest musicians: Jimmy Tarbox, Dave Allen, and Jay Hartley [guest musicians: Sarah MacLean, Mike Derry, and Mel Corcino].

"Songs I've had kicking around that had yet to be recorded and didn't fit in the repertoire’s of The Hoolios or CarLeans," Jim says, "more of a darker americana vibe."

Their debut cd entitled In The Shadows of Dixie, was recorded live at Sonalyst Studio . . . mixed and mastered at LOCO DARE Productions. The cd features guest vocalist Sarah MacLean of the CarLeans.

THE HOOLIOS, founded by songwriter Jim Carpenter, have become a beloved fixture among New England audiences and its premier venues and festivals . . . remarkably with a large dance following, contributed to the diverse rhythms that dancers have described as "delightful challenges." The Hoolios [Jim Carpenter, Ron Lewis, Sandy Allen, Bill Light, Sarah MacLean, and Corina Malbaurn] perform a vast, eclectic repertoire of original music . . . sharing the stage with notable acts: Marcia Ball, Paul Cebar & the Milwaukeeans, Johnny Nicolas, and more . . .
